Hello there! We are Letterpress Jess.
Owned by Jess & Doug Bennett, the company creates luxury letterpress stationery, art prints and posters, wedding and event invitations, gifts and more. Letterpress Jess can also print custom letterpress printing jobs, with your design or theirs!
Every piece from Letterpress Jess is hand printed (one at a time) on vintage Chandler & Price printing presses.
The couple also owns Jab Advertising, a small ad agency in downtown Canton that specializes in small business marketing.
Salvadora "Big Sal" Clanky
Letterpress Jess's very first and best partner in crime is Salvadora "Big Sal" Clanky—a mid-century 12x18 Chandler & Price printing press manufactured in Cleveland, Ohio. Our largest platen press, Sal handles most of our jobs.
Long Limbs Lenore
Designed to be used for proofing blocks of type before locking them up for printing, our Challenge Proof Press gives us flexibility in our poster size and is great for teaching letterpress printing fundamentals.
Diega "Lil Die" Palomino
Our newest addition, Diega "Lil Die" Palomino's namesake is the rigger who moved her out of her previous Staten Island home at Plum Blossom Press. The turn of the century 10x15 Chandler & Price platen printing press is raring to go but needs a little cosmetic work before taking on projects.
Love at First Press | 2013-14
We pulled our first prints—thanks to instructive workshops at Zygote Press and the Morgan Conservatory of Paper—in the late summer / early fall of 2013. It was about that time that we first met Big Sal in a basement along Main Street in North Canton. Sal was a gift from Mr. Jim Dansizen, owner of Dansizen Printing and publisher of Our Town North Canton, before he passed away in 2017. We will always be eternally grateful to Jim for giving Letterpress Jess her first press and for taking care of Sal so well for so many years!
We brought Sal to her first home inside the Hub Art Factory & Studios just days after Christmas 2013. After her trip to the spa—bathing in everything from engine degreaser to at vinegar and lemon juice mixture, along with some cosmetic TLC—the team was ready to get printing and made its public debut at the Canton First Friday in April 2014.
We attended our first major holiday markets, took on our very first custom clients and printed our first wedding invitation that same year.
Letterpress Jess continued to grow over the next two years, including a new studio space and a new partnership with Amy & Greg Eibel, the dynamic wife-husband team behind Little Chicago Clothing Company. The partnership culminated in the opening of our flagship boutique, Print & Press Shop & Studios, featuring Letterpress Jess and Little Chicago Clothing Co. goods, along with more than a dozen other handmade brands from Ohio-only makers.
In January 2017, Letterpress Jess acquired Plum Blossom Press, a Louie-Award-winning wedding stationery company based in New York. We continued to grow the Plum Blossom Weddings Collection, our line of greetings, social stationery and gifts, and to extend our list of stockists throughout the United States.
In 2019, we took our biggest leap yet and debuted our line at the National Stationery Show with our good friends at Oddball Press and expanded our wholesale business to 30 states/territories. We are looking forward to returning to NSS in 2020.
